The new Porter Airlines crew base is now open.
Spokesperson Brad Cicero says it means forty local jobs for pilots and flight attendants.
“It’s an ongoing process we have about half of the roles filled right now, so 20 out 40 that we intend to hire this year.”
Cicero says they decided to establish a base in Thunder Bay because of the number of flights out of the City.
He adds they are looking to recruit pilots and flight attendents from the Thunder Bay area and elsewhere who like the lifestyle the City has to offer.
The base is the first of its kind in Northern Ontario for any large commercially-scheduled airline.
The airline also announced today that it is increasing its schedule, with up to seven daily roundtrip flights to Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport.
There will be as many as 45 weekly flights, beginning April 12. (Photo supplied)
