Port Sees Further Increase In Grain Shipments

The Port of Thunder Bay continues to hum along this shipping season.

Officials are reporting halfway through the port has handled a million more tonnes of grain than it did last year at the same time.

That is a 27 percent jump.

We are told the reason for the increase is demand for Western Canada’s grain harvest accelerated this spring, as global supply chains were disrupted with the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Much of that demand was met by forwarding grain to market through the St. Lawrence Seaway via Thunder Bay.
