The city of Thunder Bay is extending the Patio Program this summer.
All of council voted yes Monday to the measure, which will help local businesses to mitigate the financial impacts of the coronavirus pandemic. The motion focuses on managing street closures, waiving patio fees for businesses, ease zoning rules and cover the estimated $55,000 cost for venture.
Last summer 38 temporary patios were set up in the city as compared to three in 2019, according to Waterfront District BIA Coordinator Kara Pratt.
The manager of reality services Joel DePeuter told council Monday night that a large part of the program’s estimated cost is associated with providing concrete barriers.
The city says it will be up to the Business Improvement Associations to apply for street closures.
The motion was before council on March 15th but that meeting got post-poned due to ongoing problems with Microsoft Teams.
