Greg Rickford is defending his role in temporarily closing a shelter and service hub in Kenora.
The Minister of Northern Development and Mines and Indigenous Affairs says it was never meant to be a shelter, and wasn’t serving its role as a service hub.
“It posted certain risks, not just for the community’s general safety, but for a number of the people who were actually staying there, and in and around the surrounding area. The Kenora District Services Board made the decision, which I supported,” Rickford notes.
The Kenora-Rainy River MPP feels there is cautious optimism in Kenora now but expects difficulties in the Spring.
