OPP are looking to break down the stigma associated with suicide and mental illness within the force.
They’ve launched an effort to examine and assess barriers that may prevent officers from getting help.
Commissioner Vince Hawkes says no one should suffer in silence.
“We need officers to be comfortable talking to their supervisor, talking to their best friend, talking to their spouse or their loved one. To release some of that stress that they have…and then know that we’re going to back them up”.
Hawkes says they will be conducting a review of past suicides over the past five years.
In the past week alone, three OPP officers took their lives.
