Oil Transportation Concerns Regional Chief

Ontario Regional Chief Stan Beardy says the way Canada gets its oil to market directly conflicts with Indigenous rights and public safety.

The Chief’s comment follows a second major oil spill over the weekend on Mattagami First Nation territory and the third CN derailment in northern Ontario in less than a month.

Beardy says there are no provisions in place to notify or consult First Nation communities about the transportation of hazardous material through their traditional territories. (File Photo)
