1938 – 2026

Sinikka passed away peacefully in the Transitional Care Unit, Sunday March 29, 2026.

She was born July 2, 1938, in Lohtaja Finland to Impi and Matti Kyrola, into a large farming family where she learned to work hard, and carried that work ethic throughout her lifetime.

She immigrated to Canada in 1969 to join family in Thunder Bay.

Here, she met her life partner Risto and they had many years of camping, fishing and travelling together.

She was a wonderful baker and worked at the Kivela Bakery, and later the Hoito Restaurant. After retirement she spent time volunteering, especially at Hilldale Lutheran Church, and enjoyed traveling to Finland and Spain, to visit family.

She was predeceased by her partner Risto, her sisters Annikki Vihtari, Lisa Karhula, brother Heikki Kyrola, brothers in law Elias Vihtari, Pentti Karhula, Ahti Yrjana. She is survived by sisters Leena Salmen (Pertti), Kaisu Korhonen (Juhani), Irja Yrjana, and numerous nieces and nephews in Finland and Canada.

Funeral services will be held in Everest Funeral Chapel, 299 Waverley Street at Algoma, on Wednesday April 8, 2026, at 11:00am, with Pastor Jari Lahtinen officiating.
