Simone DeSilva

Simone DeSilva, beloved mother, grandmother, sister, friend, and cherished member of her community, passed away peacefully at TBRHSC on July 25, 2026, at the age of 81.

Born on February 4, 1945, in Espanola, Ontario, Simone lived a life marked by love, generosity, and creativity. One of eleven children, family remained at the heart of her life.

Simone was predeceased by her beloved husband, Wilfred DeSilva. They met and married in Sault Ste. Marie before settling in Thunder Bay. Together, they lovingly fostered children in need, offering them a safe and caring home, until they had their daughter, Carolyn.

Simone worked in retail before owning her corner store, Simone’s Variety, in County Park. She took great pride in her store. It was more than a place of business, it was a place where people were greeted with familiarity and conversations were shared. Her eye for presentation and creative displays made it a special place in the community.

Creativity was woven into every part of Simone’s life. She had a gift for decorating her home, gardens, and seasonal displays, creating warm and welcoming spaces enjoyed by family and friends. She also loved crafting, especially handmade decorations and greeting cards, each reflecting her imagination and personal touch. Simone enjoyed the lighter pleasures of life as well, including bingo, where she was often a lucky winner, and time at the slot machines, which brought her fun and excitement.

The love Simone shared with her family was the greatest gift of her life. She is lovingly remembered by her devoted daughter, Carolyn Roberts, and son-in-law, Paul, whose love and support were a constant source of comfort and strength. She also leaves her cherished grandson, Matthew (Kirsten), and beloved granddaughter, Katherine (Nick), who brought her immense pride, laughter, and joy.

Cremation has taken place and a private family service will be held. To honour her love of flowers, gardens, and creating beautiful spaces, her family will create a memorial garden in her memory, a place where her warmth, creativity, and love will continue to bloom for years to come.
