Sharon Ida Merits (nee Murphy)

May 17, 1933 – November 6, 2025

She had a very good life, full of love, laughter, family and friends.

Her talents and interests were endless and constantly evolving. In her younger years she, cooked, cleaned, raised babies all while working part-time at Safeway’s. At the end of the day she still found time to cuddle with Maynard and watch Johnny Carson.

Sharon enjoyed duplicate bridge, cross country skiing and was a longtime member of the games complex where she worked out and swam laps. In fact, she was a longtime member of many things. The NDP party, the Lakehead Unitarian Fellowship and above all her devotion of 70 years to Maynard.

They travelled the world together, listened to music and danced the night away. Recently Sharon said “my life is complete, and it was wonderful, I’m ready to go now.”

She leaves behind daughters, Roxanne Merits and Arundel Kine (Chris), grandchildren, Erika, James, Anthony Douglas and Phoebe Kine, beloved nieces, Dawne Kilgour and Linda Dufour.

The care, concern and support that was provided by the staff and the residence at Chartwell Isabella was exceptional. Her year and a half there provided new friendships and longer independence. Much appreciation for the staff at TBRHSC and the TCU at Hogarth for the kindness and top notch care over the last few months. Sharon’s family is so grateful to all that visited her during this difficult stage of life. Having people around, has always made her happy.

Sharon’s wishes are to spend eternity beside the love of her life, Maynard, at Cliffside Cemetery in Nipigon. There will be no formal service.

For those wishing to donate in Sharon’s memory please consider Lakehead Unitarian Fellowship, the Salvation Army or Thunder Bay Symphony Orchestra.
