Rene Jean Pelot, aged 70, passed away peacefully at Roseview Manor on Monday, February 16, 2026.

Born October 23, 1955 in Hornepayne, Rene lived with his family in Caramat before moving to Port Arthur (Thunder Bay) in 1957. Following high school, Rene qualified as a Heavy Equipment mechanic, earning his inter-provincial ticket and becoming a skilled welder. He loved engines and could make anything run.

Mental illness intervened not long into adulthood, necessitating a change in Rene’s life direction. After institutionalized care for a time, his parents then took him home, where he worked as yard man at their business of Lappe Lumber in Gorham Township for the next twenty-five years. Rene enjoyed this period of his life very much, keeping busy and fit, and meeting the many customers in the yard. He always had an opinion on things!

Predeceased by his parents Ivan and Madge, Rene is survived by his siblings Margaret, Catherine, and Richard (Aila), along with numerous nieces and nephews.

Charitable donations in Rene’s memory may be made to the Dew Drop Inn. There will be no funeral service.
