Mrs. Cynthia (Cindy) Mae Di Gregorio

1959 – 2025

It is with the heaviest of hearts that we announce the passing of the anchor of our family, Cynthia (Cindy) Di Gregorio (née Hooymans), who left this world peacefully, with family by her side, on October 4, 2025, at the age of 66, after a courageous battle with cancer.

Born in Port Arthur on September 1, 1959, to Connie and Arnie Hooymans, Cindy spent most of her life in the community she loved. She attended Lakeview High School and, through her own determination, worked hard to save for her post-secondary education at Conestoga College in Kitchener— an opportunity she proudly earned for herself. It was during this time that she met the love of her life, Silvio Di Gregorio, while standing in the wedding party of close friends Linda and Mimmo. Although it would be a few years before their paths crossed again and their relationship truly blossomed, they went on to build a marriage and a family grounded in love, humility, and integrity.

Cindy was the devoted mother of Deanna (Armstrong), Dante, Enzo, and Lorencio Di Gregorio. She was also the proud and adoring grandmother of four granddaughters, three of whom lovingly carry her name. Her family was the light of her life, and she was the heart of their home. Cindy never missed a school event, recital, sports game, or milestone. She gave her children and grandchildren the gift of her unwavering presence, gentle encouragement, and unconditional love.

In addition to her devotion as a wife, mother, and grandmother, Cindy also dedicated herself to one of the family businesses, Whitewater Golf Club. With warmth, kindness, and an effortless ability to make people feel welcome, Cindy helped transform Whitewater into more than just a golf club — she helped make it a community. Her presence there will be deeply missed by staff, members, and friends alike.

Cindy was known for her selflessness, generosity, and radiant smile. She had a gift for nurturing others, often expressed through delicious meals and baked goods lovingly shared with family, friends, and even strangers in need. Among her many specialties, her apple pies were legendary—a sweet reminder of her warmth and care that we will miss deeply. Cindy also devoted countless hours to volunteering in her children’s schools and the community, embodying her lifelong belief in service, kindness, and compassion.

Even throughout her illness, Cindy’s strength and optimism shone brightly. She faced each challenge with courage, rarely complained, and continued to think of others even in her most difficult moments. Her bravery, kindness, and grace left an unforgettable mark on everyone she encountered — from lifelong friends, to the nurses and doctors who cared for her. Again and again, people described her in the same way: “Cindy, you are incredible.”

Cindy leaves behind her beloved husband Silvio; her children Deanna (Kyle Armstrong), Dante (Katherine), Enzo (Hailey), and Lorencio (Brynn); and her cherished grandchildren Aviana Patricia Mae, Ellamae Kathryn, Evelyn June, and Talia Mae. She is also survived by her father Arnie Hooymans, mother Connie Hooymans, her mother-in-law Agnese Di Gregorio, her sisters Carrol Cringle, Sandra (Gino) DeLuca, and Cheryl (Kevin) York, brother-in-law Bruno (Elena) Di Gregorio, and many nieces and nephews. Cindy is predeceased by her father-in-law Cesare Di Gregorio and brother-in-law David Cringle.

The family is deeply grateful to the many friends and relatives who surrounded Cindy with love, prayers, meals, and unwavering support throughout her journey. A special thank you is extended to Laura Hendren NP, Dr. Stewart Kennedy, Dr. Jeffrey Heringer, Dr. Katrina Ward, Dr. Kathy Simpson, nurse Tammy, the compassionate staff on 1A at the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre, and the extraordinary team at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester,Minnesota, whose care and kindness will never be forgotten.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, October 9, 2025 at 10:30 AM in St. Anthony’s Church. Entombment to follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Visitation for friends will take place on Wednesday evening from 4:30-9:00 PM in the EVEREST FUNERAL CHAPEL, 299 Waverley Street at Algoma, with the Vigil Prayers beginning at 7:00 PM.

Should friends so desire, donations to a cause close to Cindy’s heart, BGC Thunder Bay (formerly the Boys & Girls Club of Thunder Bay) would be greatly appreciated.

Cindy’s life was a beautiful testament to love, kindness, and faith. She will be remembered as an angel on earth — and now in heaven — watching over her family and loved ones with the same gentle care and unwavering devotion that defined her life.
