December 25, 1931 – September 13, 2025

It is with deep sadness, the family of Marcella Cont announce her passing Saturday, September 13, 2025, at the age of 93.

Marcella was born in Cannebola, Italy, one of ten children. She immigrated with her son, Dario, to Canada in 1956, reuniting with her husband, Ersilio.

Marcella’s career of 38 years was at the Port Arthur General Hospital in the laundry department, where she formed many deep friendships.

Marcella lived life on her own terms. She was a kind, generous person, finding joy in helping others. She was happiest spending time with her family and friends.

Working in her home and garden was her passion.

Marcella was predeceased by her husband, Ersilio (1994), her mother and father, sisters and brothers.

She is survived by her son, Dario; daughter-in-law, Gerlynn; and her grandson, Daniel (Amanda); as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins, in Italy and Canada.

Funeral Mass for Marcella will be held Friday, September 19, 2025 at 2 p.m., in Corpus Christi RC Church, 664 Red River Road, celebrated by Father Terry Sawchuk. A private interment for family and close friends will follow the Funeral Mass. Visitation will be held Thursday evening, 5 p.m. until 7 p.m., in Everest Funeral Chapel, 299 Waverley Street, at Algoma, with Vigil Prayers offered at 6:30 p.m., led by Deacon Dennis McDermott. 

The family would like to thank all those family members and friends who supported Marcella in her last few years. A special thank you to the PSWs and staff of Cook Apartments for their care and support.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Marcella’s memory may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
