With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our loving mother, daughter, niece and friend, Kayla Ann Alison Williams, age 37 years, peacefully in Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre on Sunday, March 15, 2026 with her family by her side.
Kayla was born in Sioux Lookout, Ontario on June 14, 1988 to Zebedee and Susan (née Matawapit) Williams and was a proud member of North Caribou Lake First Nation. She loved bingo, online games, cookouts, being outdoors and fishing, shopping, as well as playing sports such as baseball, broomball and volleyball. She also enjoyed volunteering her time for community events and cooking at festivals and activities. Above all else, time spent with her family, especially her children brought her the greatest joy. Kayla is survived by her mother Susan Williams; her children Jayden (Shorty) Williams, Mayara Williams, Ashton Williams and Noah (Tate) Williams; her aunties Harriet Matawapit, Elsie Matawapit, Lucy (Frank Johnup) Pans, Juliet (Tom) Keeash, Martha (Mark) Chikane, Rhoda Williams, Barbara Williams and her uncles Jake (Liza McKay) Williams, Dylan Beardy and Maio (Grace) Matawapit, and her brother in law Darryl Kakekayash. She also leaves behind many cousins and extended family members and many friends.
She was predeceased by her father Zebedee Williams; sister Shannon Kakekayash; paternal grandparents James & Jennie Williams and maternal grandparents Geordie & Victoria Matawapit; paternal uncle Simon Williams, maternal uncles Edward Matawapit, Morris Matawapit and James Matawapit; aunts Emily McNeill and Janet Taylor; cousin Ina Matawapit as well as cousins on both sides.
A Viewing Service for Kayla will be held in Thunder Bay on Tuesday, March 17, 2026 from 2:00pm until 4:00pm in the WESTFORT CHAPEL, 420 West Gore Street at James, officiated by Pastor Randall Crowe.
