Irene Wakula-Oltsher

Following a courageous battle with cancer Irene Wakula-Oltsher, of Thunder Bay, passed away peacefully in the early morning of February 12, 2026. Born on October 14, 1955 in Fort William.

Irene was predeceased by her parents Doris and Stanley Wakula, her Aunt and Uncle Soltinuk. They emigrated together to Fort William after the war. Embracing the Ukrainian community became their family. Irene was proud of her Ukrainian heritage, and her faith God gave her strength and purpose throughout her life. Irene will be sadly missed by cousins Pat & Lil, Lesia & family and her family of friends Kim and Godson James, Carol & Ian, Marusia & Sonya, Frank and Bill. Thank you for your love and care given to Irene. Lesia & Marusia your emails and pictures were cherished.

We would like to extend a sincere thank you to all the doctors, nurses, PSW and staff of TBRHSC, St Joseph’s Hospital, Southbridge Lakehead and Hogarth Riverview.

Cremation has taken place. Interment will be held at a later date in Mountain View Cemetery.
