GIULIO DI STEFANO

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of Giulio Di Stefano on the 13th of April, 2026, at the age of 75.  Born in Basciano, Italy, July 11, 1950, Giulio immigrated to Canada with his parents Bernardo and Antonietta Di Stefano, along with his younger brother Mario, in 1960.  The family was later completed with the addition of son and brother, Oswaldo (Ozzie) Di Stefano. The Di Stefano Italian heritage and culture were always cherished and fostered in their home and their ties to family and friends in Italy remain strong to this day.

A youthful entrepreneurial spirit took Giulio from selling newspapers as a child on the street corner, to employment at Bombardier for many years. As an avid sportsman, he had many hunting and fishing tales to entertain his good friends (and cohorts!) along with those lucky enough to be within ear shot. He settled and built his home in the community of Lappe where he lived for 47 years. His happiest moments were spent recreationally in nature, tending his beautiful gardens, or relaxing on the front porch of his home, always with his devoted canine companions by his side. He was known for having special talents with his heritage tomatoes and outstanding floral beds, the fruits of which he shared generously with many friends. Ever the entrepreneur, he often sold perennials in the spring. Guilio was well versed in world news, geography and politics and would always welcome an animated exchange of perspective. Giulio’s good friends, family and pets enriched his life beyond measure and much gratitude is held for the contributions they all made to his life.

Left to mourn the loss of Giulio is brother Ozzie Di Stefano (Lyn), sister-in-law Cherie Di Stefano and nephew Justin Di Stefano, along with various relatives and very close friends in both Canada and Italy.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at a future date, to be announced. As per Giulio’s wishes, interment will take place in Italy in the fall of 2026. If so desired, in lieu of flowers, donations to the Thunder Bay and District Humane Society would be greatly appreciated.

We will all miss seeing him heading into town, head peering just above the steering wheel, sporting his infamous fur hat ten months of the year.
