November 29, 1933 – May 3, 2026
Flora Mary Martyn (née Kuurila), born in Thunder Bay, Ontario, passed away peacefully on May 3, 2026 at the age of 92, with her family by her side. Flora was predeceased by her loving husband, Melvin (Bob) Martyn; her son Kenneth (Ken) Martyn; her parents, Waino and Aino Kuurila; and her siblings, Kauno, Sirkka, Arnie, Thelma, Eila, Norma, Faye, Alven, and Kenny.
She is lovingly remembered by her children: Carol MacNeil (Bernie), Kelly (Shelley), Shelley, and Cindy; and her daughter-in-law, Melody (Ken). She leaves behind a proud legacy in her grandchildren, Steven, Kurtis, Jason (Erica), Erika (Scott), Bradley (Brittany), Stephen, Tori (Maggie), and Janelle, as well as her cherished great-grandchildren, Emerson, Finley, Madelyn, Hadley, Wyatt, Zoey, and Nathan.
Flora dedicated 40 years of her life as a school bus driver, a role she took great pride in, safely transporting generations of children. Alongside her husband Bob, she was also deeply involved in their cattle business, contributing quietly and steadily behind the scenes. She found joy in life’s simple pleasures: a good game of cribbage, knitting and crocheting for those she loved, and spending time working through puzzles. Above all, Flora’s greatest love was her family. Her home was the heart of it all, and her Sunday dinners at 5:00 p.m. were a cherished tradition that brought everyone together.
Flora will be remembered for her steady presence, her dedication to those she loved, and the warmth she brought to everyday moments. She leaves behind a family who will carry her traditions forward and hold her memory close.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the staff at Pioneer Ridge for their compassion and care, and for supporting Flora with dignity through her final days. In keeping with Flora’s wishes, there will be no formal funeral service. A celebration of her life will be held privately with family at a later date. For those wishing to honour Flora, donations to the Alzheimer Association would be gratefully appreciated.
