Edwin Garnet Gordon

November 21, 1959 – July 1, 2023

Born in Fort William, Ontario, Edwin Garnet Gordon entered the world with a twinkle in his eye and, by all accounts, a joke already brewing.

Over the years, he wore many hats—but only ever a helmet or a toque. From carnival ride operator to sanitation worker, sidewalk builder, house fixer, and unofficial family mechanic, Dad did it all. If it was broken, he would fix it—or at least give it a solid try.

That same determination applied to everything in his life, including his greatest repair project of all: winning and keeping the heart of the love of his life, Verna Rose Abraham. Together, they shared 15 wonderful, laughter-filled years.

Dad was diagnosed with cancer in 2018, and though it slowed him down a bit, it never stopped him. Even in the thick of treatment, he made sure his “cute little Vernie” was looked after.

He was tougher than nails, even if sports weren’t his thing—unless you counted yelling at HGTV for doing everything wrong. (“What a dumb decision that was!! What I would have done was…” was a frequent refrain.)

He loved a good joke, a cold beer, and his “happy hay.” If you were lucky enough to be on his call list, you’d get a gravelly voiced “Happy Birthday” duet from him and Mom that could have given Dr. Hook a run for their money.

Always ready to lend a hand—car trouble, home repairs, yard work—Dad showed up with a grin, a case of beer, and a lot of what he referred to as “ruttering.”

As a father to his daughters Heidi and Tiffany, an adopted father to Thompson, and a grandfather to Caspian, Ashton, Charles, Ezekiel, Justice, Jessilyn, Rose, Billy, and Elijah, Dad taught through example: try first, if you need help, ask, and if you’re getting frustrated, walk away for a bit—it’ll still be there when you get back.

He joins his parents Clara (née Taylor) and Bill Gordon, his brothers Graham, Bill, and Donald, sister Clara, nephew Billy and great-nephew Gordon, niece Sherry, his sister Valarie, whom he met again in March of 2025, and his beloved Verna, whom he was reunited with in August of 2024, who he no doubt greeted with, “Where you was?”

He is survived by his daughters Heidi and Tiffany, his son Thompson, his cherished grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews; his siblings Cathie (Ron), Nina (Al), Marlene (Howie), Bruce (Phyllis), Larry (Barb) and Linda (Paul); as well as his lifelong best friend, Mel.

Our family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to the first responders and bystanders who did everything they could to help Dad. Your kindness will never be forgotten.

Eddy was a man who worked hard, loved deeply,
laughed loudly, and never missed a chance to fix
something—or someone—who needed it.
The world’s a little quieter without him,
but heaven just got a whole lot funnier.
