Mr. Edward Macura, age 98 years, resident of Hogarth Riverview Manor, passed away peacefully with family by his side on January 27, 2026.
Ed was born on September 26, 1927 in Fort William (Thunder Bay) to Anne and John Macura. As a young man, he moved to Toronto to make his mark as a hairdresser, returning to his hometown in 1980. He loved riding his purple ten speed all over town, with his camera bag slung across his shoulder. His photo albums were full of images of lakers on the Kam River, his great niece in the garden, and his great-nephew at the hockey rink. He was a talented artist and filled wallet sized sketch books with pen drawings of nature, people on the bus, and anything else that caught his creative eye.
The Toronto Blue Jays had a true and loyal fan in Ed.
He was known around the neighbourhood for swearing at the snow, and sometimes the neighbour’s dogs.
Uncle Ed will be missed by his nieces Karen (Stephen) Ford, and Paula Watkinson, his great nephews Joseph (Keltie) Ford, James Watkinson, Spencer Watkinson, great niece Kaitlyn (Krishna) Tangilapalli, and the great-greats, Nash, Isla and Aari.
He’s predeceased by his parents, and his beloved sister, Valentina.
Heartfelt thanks to the incredible staff of Birch Grove at Hogarth Riverview Manor for their care and kindness.
As per Ed’s wishes, no service will be held. In lieu of flowers, donations to St Joseph’s Foundation would be greatly appreciated.
