Catherine Elaine Murray

September 9, 1950 – May 15, 2026

Catherine Elaine Murray, age 75, of Thunder Bay, Ontario, passed away peacefully on May 15, 2026, at Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre, surrounded by the love of her family.

Catherine was born on September 9, 1950, in Fort William, Ontario, to Brian and Doris Sabbe. She grew up on Brock Street, surrounded by a large and lively extended family, including the fun-loving and mischievous Parson boys, whose adventures helped shape many cherished childhood memories.

Catherine built a successful career rooted in dedication and connection with others. She worked as Assistant to Director Jim McCuaig at the Lakehead Public School Board and later served as Director of Media Relations at Confederation College. She was respected for her professionalism, warmth, and ability to make people feel welcomed and valued.

More than anything, Catherine had a deep love for family, friendship, and entertaining. Whether at home, at camp, in Florida, or aboard a cruise ship, her door was always open. She welcomed everyone with laughter, music, dancing, and unconditional kindness. Catherine had a remarkable way of lighting up a room and making people feel included. She truly loved people and lived life with joy, generosity, and compassion.

Catherine is survived by her loving husband, Roy Murray; her daughters, Jennifer (Patrick) and Kathleen (David); and her cherished grandchildren, Preston, Lily, Alex, and Calvin. She is also lovingly remembered by her stepchildren, Elizabeth and Stephen; step-grandchildren Christopher (Ayla) and Kathleen (Jordon); and her step-great-grandchildren.

She will be sadly missed by her sisters, Lynne (Randy) and Patricia; her in-laws Gerald (Marilyn), Jimmy, Roland (Wanda), and Ron; as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends. Special friendships with Laraine, Marga, Edith, and Tom brought Catherine much joy throughout her life.

Catherine was predeceased by her parents, Brian and Doris; her brothers Terrance and Niall; her brother-in-law Philip; and her sister-in-law Wanda.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Catherine’s memory may be made to the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Foundation – Cancer Centre.

Catherine — Mom, MorMor, Auntie, and Friend — will be deeply missed by all who were fortunate enough to know and love her.
