Mrs. Assuntina Maletta, age 86 years, passed away peacefully with her loving family at her side on March 10th, 2026 at St. Joseph’s Care Group. Assuntina was born in Colosimi, Cosenza, Italy on February 19, 1940, the daughter of Ralph & Sarafina (nee Sigiliano) Colosimo. The family extends special thanks to their sister Carmen, whose devoted care and support, brought comfort to Mom during the last few months.
She grew up in Colosomi, Italy where she met Vincenzo Maletta and the two were married in 1961 for 55 years. A hair stylist by trade, she worked in Italy before coming to Port Arthur in May of 1968 with 4 children, where they settled in Thunder Bay and had 2 more children. Assunta and Vincenzo continued as hair stylists, owning their own business, until their retirement in the mid 1990’s.
As a young woman, she enjoyed growing up and playing with her siblings and cousins in Italy. In her spare time, Assunta enjoyed playing Bocce with Vince and their friends.
Assuntina cherished their annual fall get-together, where she joined friends and family in making antipasti, sausages, and preserves, filling the day with laughter and warm companionship. She was a member of the Italian Society of Port Arthur Woman’s Club and St. Anthony’s R.C. Church.
Assuntina’s greatest love was her family, especially her grandchildren and she was happiest when spending time with them. She will be lovingly remembered and dearly missed by her children Louie (Renata), Francesca, Vlad (Christine), Rocky (Kathleen), Carmen, Enzo (Carla); grandchildren: Vince (Maya), Justin (Jamie), Vanessa, Natasha, Adrian(Ashley), Andrea (Mike), Michael (Lori), Matthew(Taylor), Luca, Dianna, Nathan, Patrick(Kim), Sarah(Steve), Jae-Lyn(Ben), Bella(James), Matthew(Ashley) and Mikayla; great grandchildren Anthony, Emma, Aliana, Finn, Marcus, Ava, Jameson, Aiden, Lilly, Jaxon, Truett & Rowan, Sisters Gina(Luigi) and Tatina, brother Angelo(Anna Maria) and as well as by numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and other relatives in Canada and Italy. The family would like to extend our deepest gratitude to Dr. Bezanson, Dr.Migay, Dr. Sellick and Dr. Bassuony, the staff of St. Joseph Care Group 4N and a special thank you to Nurse Jeff who came to her home prior to her being hospitalized.
