Angus Alexander Grant MacDonald, long-time resident of Kaministiquia, died January 14, 2026. Born in Brantford, Ontario in 1943, he was raised in Toronto and at Stony Lake. He was pre-deceased by his parents, Lieutenant-Colonel George Leslie MacDonald and Florence Gibson MacDonald, and sister Janet Ajzenstat. He is survived and sorely missed by his wife, Rebecca Dickson, daughters Molly MacDonald (Matti Hansen), MaryJane MacDonald (Chad Kirvan), grandchildren Lee and Kiki, sister Kady MacDonald Denton and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
For those who did not know him, he may be remembered for his diverse accomplishments: supporting small business and community development in First Nations and Inuit communities in Northern Ontario and the, then, Northwest Territories; battling for and securing funding for a brachytherapy machine for the Cancer Centre of the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre; illustrating the Handmade Thunder Bay Map of local artists and artisans’ studios; with his team, representing Ontario at Ottawa’s Winterlude Festival snow-sculpting competition on Parliament Hill; and for 25 years hosting the Little Dog Classic, Canada’s longest running Frisbee golf tournament.
For those who knew him, and they are legion, he will be remembered as perhaps the most unusual, engaging, interesting, artistic, intelligent, chess-playing, fun-loving, story-telling Leaf’s fan they ever met. As one of them put it, “We are diminished.”
Memorial gathering will take place at the Kaministiquia Community Centre, 2:00 pm Sunday March 1, 2026.
