The events surrounding this year’s tragic shooting deaths in Nova Scotia are going under review.
Federal Public Safety Minister Bill Blair explains the independent review will be a joint effort between the Canadian and Nova Scotia governments.
A three-member panel will look at the police response to the shootings and how to possibly prevent and manage such events in the future.
“These events were shocking and deeply concerning to all Canadians. They devastated families, friends and they had an enormous impact on all communities,” stated Blair.
A crazed gunman went on a shooting spree in the province in April killing 22 people, the worst mass shooting in the country’s history.
Blair adds he “understands that this review represents an important step forward as we look for answers for the families and friends of the innocent victims and we learn to ensure nothing like this happens again.”
A preliminary report will be issued by the panel in February with a final report coming in August 2021.
