New Tourism Campaign Targets Locals

The city is launching a new digital campaign to promote tourism to locals.

The campaign was introduced on Facebook three weeks ago, and is an ongoing collection of videos made in collaboration with local filmmakers and recording artists.

Tourism manager Paul Pepe says they’re 30 second snapshots of a day in the life of Thunder Bay, aimed at building community pride of place.

Pepe says research conducted over the winter found a third of summer leisure tourists are coming to the city to visit friends and family. The findings, he says, show the importance of making local people aware of their role as tourism ambassadors.

Pepe adds it’s one way of ensuring visitors stay longer and spend more money in the community, noting that’s equally as important as getting more vistors here in the first place.

The videos are getting plays on Facebook, YouTube, and at Silver City, with a new one launching every week. (File photo)
