A new $23 million bio-refining facility for pulp is officially open at Resolute Forest Products.
Company official Remi Lalonde explains the new plant is an investment in research and development for the paper giant so it can discover some new value-added products.
Lalonde notes “it’s no great secret that paper over the long term is no growth industry.”
He suggests by coming up with new products it will help ensure there is a future for the Thunder Bay operations.
Today’s official opening was part of a $2 million announcement from the Trudeau government for the facility which has already invested $5.8 million in the plant.
