New Anti-Terror Law Draws Battle Lines In House

The Federal Government’s proposed Bill C-51 continues to be debated in the House of Commons.

Halifax MP Megan Leslie feels the anti-terrorism law unfairly targets Canada’s Muslim population, and says the Harper government is feeding anger and creating division.

Meanwhile, Justice Minister Peter MacKay calls Leslie’s comments “completely offensive,” adding she’s far off base. He says what they’re attempting to do as a government with the new legislation is enhance safety protection and security for all Canadians.

The Bill is now in committee and could be amended before it becomes law.
