NDP Leader Andrea Horwath promising to overhaul home care to end wait times, deliver more consistent care, and support aging Ontarians to live in their own homes longer.
The commitment part the party’s plan to make all long-term care and home care public and not-for-profit within eight years, starting in 2022.
Horwath held a virtual meeting Tuesday with local health care leaders at Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre. She’s joined by Judith Monteith-Farrell, NDP MPP for Thunder Bay-Atikokan.
“We have to take action now to make sure people are safe in nursing homes and during home-care visits throughout the second wave. And we have to overhaul the system to make sure seniors care is never again dangerous for parents and grandparents,” says Horwath. “We’re going to help people to live in their own home longer, giving them a better quality of life as they age.
“Never again will we let a woman in Thunder Bay be denied the same quality of home care services she could get if she lived in Toronto or Ottawa.”
In it’s first term in government, the NDP vows to invest at least $1 billion dollars in home care, increasing service volumes every year.
