More High Calibre Hockey In Thunder Bay

The Telus Cup begins today at the Fort William Gardens.

Organzer Iain Angus tells us it is the National Midget Hockey Championship, which was once known as the Air Canada Cup.

Six teams, including the Thunder Bay Kings are taking part in the week long event with games starting at noon.

He explains it’s the first time in 30 years we have been able to see such a calibre hockey in the city as well as a glimpse at the host team.

“One of the ironies about Thunder Bay Kings is, they very seldom will play in Thunder Bay. They’re usually playing on the road, and sometimes they’ll play exhibition games, but there’s no regular season so they can build up a fan base.”

The games all take place in the afternoon and evening at the Fort William Gardens.

  • Originally from southern Ontario, Jason found his way here and fell in love with the community and music scene of Thunder Bay over twenty years ago. In between various stints on radio, television and writing, Jason is a dad, a partner and (some would consider) a zoo keeper (seriously, he has a LOT of pets).
