The Ministry of Natural Resources is dealing with two new forest fires in the region.
Fort Frances District Fire 019 is suspected to be a shore lunch fire that wasn’t put out. It’s about 22 kilometres northwest of Fort Frances on Rainy Lake.
The second new wildfire is Thunder Bay Fire 033. That blaze is on an island on Pashkokogan Lake, roughly 91 kilometres north of Thunder Bay. Both fires are listed at 0.1 hectares in size, and not under control.
The forest fire hazard for the southwest and central parts of the region is low, and moderate with pockets of high hazard in the south-east and across the far north.
