Minimum Vaccination Age May Drop In Region Soon

Thunder Bay residents 70 years of age and over could soon be getting the COVID-19 vaccine.

Online bookings for COVID vaccinations for those 75 years and up and now underway in the area.

The province has already lowered the minimum age for receiving the vaccine in 10 more regions, but not the Thunder Bay District.

However, Medical Officer Dr. Janet DeMille notes the process of vaccinating people over 70 in this region may not be far off.

“We anticipate moving down to the 70-74 age group….shortly,” notes DeMille who adds, “It could be this week because we just wanted to make sure those individuals 75-79 have first dibs on the appointments.”

Meantime, DeMille believes the district could move out of the Grey-Lockdown stage of the province’s pandemic framework into Red-Control in the next couple of weeks if our case numbers continue their downward trend.
