There are renewed calls for the federal government to adopt the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples in Canada.
The Métis National Council wants legislation implementing the Declaration passed this year.
There have been several unsuccessful attempts to get it through in the past.
The Council notes the Prime Minister made adopting the Declaration one of the Liberals’ priorities in the 2019 election.
The House of Commons doesn’t resume sitting until September 23rd.
