Mauro Raises Vaccine Concerns

The Mayor is asking the Premier not to forget about vaccinating the Northwest against COVID-19.

In a letter to the Premier and the head of the province’s vaccine distribution team, Bill Mauro acknowledges the province is prioritizing Red and Grey or locked-down zones.

However, he says a Health Unit District, like Thunder Bay’s, could be in the Orange designation despite having similar numbers to those higher-priority areas.

Mauro also points out patients in the Northwest tend to need more intense care than those in other parts of the province, and more are at high risk because of conditions like diabetes.

He asks the province to consider “other factors” that could have negative consequences if they’re ignored.

Officials with the Health Unit have described our vaccine supply as “limited”, especially given our higher-risk populations like seniors and First Nation communities.
