Matawa Education Centre Launches Charity

You can help the students at the Matawa Education Centre by donating to the school’s new charity fund.

Matawa First Nation Management CEO David Paul Achneepineskum tells us any donation will help them provide for students.

“Try to get them some sports equipment etc., and also we have to fundraise for future school activities. Our government funding is pretty limited, so we need to fundraise.”

Matawa’s Gathering of Rivers for Community Care provided $35,000 to help create the new Matawa First Nation Education Authority.

Bonnie Moore is with the Matawa First Nation Education Authority and tells us the fund will also be used to fund bursaries for students furthering their education.

Meanwhile, two local businessmen are helping the get a new hockey and ice rink.

Michael and Steve Larizza are generously donating the package, which will be a permanent structure.
