Free local conservation access available for library card holders

A new partnership between Thunder Bay Public Library and the Lakehead Region Conservation Authority (LRCA) is providing residents with a new opportunity to get outside.

Twenty LRCA Explore Card Parking Passes are now available to be loaned through the library’s collection and can be borrowed for a week at a time by anyone with a library card in good standing.

“This is a great new addition to the Library’s collection of Thunder Bay attractions and experiences,” said the Director of Community Development for Thunder Bay Public Library, Raili Roy. “The LRCA’s Conservation Areas are all very popular spots to hike, bird watch, and enjoy nature. Two of them also include boat launches that see a lot of use in the summer, and another two are fantastic spots for winter activities.”

The cards will give you access to any of LRCA’s 10 conservation areas.

The LRCA relies on the purchase of Explore Cards and daily parking fees to maintain its conservation areas, but it wanted to increase residents’ access to them.

“We also recognize the importance of equitable access to the outdoors,” says the CAO of the LRCA, Tammy Cook. “We hope that through this partnership, more watershed residents will be able to enjoy our recreational offerings.”

The Explore Cards are available through every branch and can be reserved through the library’s website here.
