Lakehead League Expanding in 2022-23

The Lakehead Junior Hockey League (LJHL) will have five members for the 2022-2023 season.

The expansion franchise will be called the Current River Storm and will play home games in the northside of Thunder Bay at Current River Arena.

“Not only will the players be able to compete in Junior hockey, but they will also be proudly representing the community of Current River. We want to create a team full of passion and respect for the game of hockey,” said Robbie Untinen, the General Manager and Head Coach of the Storm.

Robbie and his father Ryan continue to recruit staff for the upcoming season.

President Josh Gribben added, “The Lakehead Junior Hockey League is excited to be in a position where we are growing the game at the local junior B level, and we wish this new group nothing but success in their new endeavor.”

The Storm will join the Thunder Bay Bandits, Thunder Bay Northern Hawks, Schreiber Falcons and Nipigon Elks for next season.

  • Originally from southern Ontario, Jason found his way here and fell in love with the community and music scene of Thunder Bay over twenty years ago. In between various stints on radio, television and writing, Jason is a dad, a partner and (some would consider) a zoo keeper (seriously, he has a LOT of pets).
