Kick Off The New Year With Ziggy!

Star-studded tribute concerts are nothing new, we’ve been doing them since at least the 1980’s but with a worldwide pandemic happening, there has been a whole lot of added twists this year. In anticipation of a continued distancing issue, and in celebration of both 5 years since we lost the genius of David Bowie and his 74th birthday…longtime Bowie pianist Mike Garson has organized: A Bowie Celebration – Just For One Day! It will be livestreamed and take place on what would have been Bowies 74th birthday, January 08, 2021. Tickets for the event start at $20 and are on sale now. Musicians will be taking part from all stages of Bowie’s career and there will be incredible special guests as well.

Performers include: Billy Corgan (The Smashing Pumpkins), Trent Reznor (Nine Inch Nails), Gary Oldman, Gavin Rossdale (Bush), Perry Farrell (Jane’s Addiction), Joe Elliott (Def Leppard), Grammy-winning singer Macy Gray, Ian Astbury (The Cult), Lzzy Hale (Halestorm), Bernard Fowler (Rolling Stones), Corey Glover (Living Color), Tony-winning rocker Lena Hall, vocal phenom Judith Hill (Grammy winner for 20 Feet From Stardom ), and many more to be announced.

The ‘backing band’ members will include: David’s final touring band of Mike Garson, Gail Ann Dorsey, Earl Slick, Sterling Campbell Gerry Leonard and Catherine Russell along with Zack Alford, Carlos Alomar, Kevin Armstrong, Alan Childs, Robin Clark, Emm Gryner, Omar Hakim, Clare Hirst, Erdal Kızılçay, Tim Lefebvre, Martha Mooke, Holly Palmer, Mark Plati, Carmine Rojas, Charlie Sexton, Bowie’s long-time record producer and musician Tony Visconti, and many more.

The evening promises to cover all of the hits as well as many album deep cuts, and will be available to stream for 24 Hours after the show (in case you can’t watch it live). It sounds like an incredible evening and I’ll definitely be watching!

  • Originally from southern Ontario, Jason found his way here and fell in love with the community and music scene of Thunder Bay over twenty years ago. In between various stints on radio, television and writing, Jason is a dad, a partner and (some would consider) a zoo keeper (seriously, he has a LOT of pets).
