City Might Bid On 2024 Ontario Winter Games

The city may be about to embark on another effort to secure a major sporting event.

Councillors will be asked on Monday to approve submitting a bid to host the 2024 Ontario Winter Games.

It would mean funding in the amount of $250,000 would be approved in principle and distributed between
the 2023 and 2024 operating budgets, should our bid be successful.

It would also mean $50,000 of in-kind services and/or waived fees would be approved in principle as part of the process.

The games are held every two years with about 3,500 athletes, coaches, and other officials participating.

They were first held in 1970.
