Is Thunder Bay Open For Business? Part Five

This week on Thunder Bay Votes: The issues that matter, we ask, is Thunder Bay open for business?

We took our news microphone to the streets of the city to get your views on what might be preventing some new businesses from setting up shop in Thunder Bay.

There were a variety of answers, including crime, high electricity rates, and no incentives for small businesses to start up.

One woman told us she thought high property taxes could be to blame along with the cost of construction.

Another man was perplexed over why businesses wouldn’t want to open here citing our “great standard of living” and good housing prices.

One person was more blunt saying city councillors “don’t seem like they want to grow Thunder Bay.”

  • Originally from southern Ontario, Jason found his way here and fell in love with the community and music scene of Thunder Bay over twenty years ago. In between various stints on radio, television and writing, Jason is a dad, a partner and (some would consider) a zoo keeper (seriously, he has a LOT of pets).
