I’m beating our own Ram-Man, Kev, to the punch with this one!
Director Kevin Smith (Clerks, Chasing Amy, Dogma, etc.) has announced a muscular new project for Netflix, he’s rebooting the Masters of the Universe animated franchise! The new project will be called Masters of the Universe Revelation. It’s apparently going to pick up right where the original cartoon series left off, showing the ‘Final Battle’ between He-Man and Skeletor. Will it be the final battle? Will there be new antagonists introduced? Will Skeletor stick to the loincloth look or will he get pants? Who knows? I’m excited to find out!
I was a big He-Man fan as a kid, and I still watch the old cartoons from time to time, so I was definitely excited to read about the upcoming project this past summer. Kevin Smith has a great sense of humour, which I’m sure he’ll bring to the project, and he’s also a huge comic book nerd (in fact, he owns a comic book store, check it out here). I’ve never read any of the Masters of the Universe comics, it was strictly the cartoon and the toys for me (please don’t mention the movie…it was terrible!) but I know Smith will come up with something very creative. Whether it stays true to the comics or original cartoon remains to be seen, but given Smith’s imagination, a complete re imagining would not be out of the question, nor would it be unwelcome!
The new series has some series star power behind it as well, the voice cast is pretty stellar. Casting Mark Hammill as Skeletor is a stroke of genius all on it’s own, but I’m also excited to see Henry Rollins and Cree Summer involved! Check out the full cast list:
• Mark Hamill as Skeletor
• Lena Headey as Evil-Lyn
• Chris Wood as Prince Adam / He-Man
• Sarah Michelle Gellar as Teela
• Liam Cunningham as Man-At-Arms

No official word yet on when the series will air, but that week Kev and I will likely both be on holiday, hanging out together in the family room with piles of snacks binge watching together!
By the way, if you are a Masters of the Universe fan and haven’t seen the new She-Ra cartoon, She Ra and the Princesses of Power on Netflix yet, I HIGHLY recommend it! It’s been pretty much completely reimagined and reboot. My boys and I have binged watched both seasons twice now.
