The memory of residential schools in northwestern Ontario remains real for many First Nations.
It was evident in Friday’s Orange Shirt Day in Thunder Bay. Hundreds, wearing orange t-shirts, walked from city hall to Pope John Paul the Second School, the site of the former St. Joseph’s residential school.
Those that took part say it’s a step towards the reconciliation process and to honour the mothers, fathers, sisters and grandparents and those that did not return from those schools.
