Human Rights Commissioner Appointed Judge

The Ontario Human Right’s Commissioner has been appointed as a Superior Court Judge in Brampton.

Renu Mandhane was at the helm of the commission when it called for improvements to the aging Thunder Bay District Jail.

Mandhane also examined complaints from Indigenous victim’s who felt police weren’t doing a proper job of examining their complaints.

The government will be looking to appoint a new Chief Commissioner.

Mandhane has been the chief commissioner of the OHRC since 2015.

She was appointed today by Justice Minister David Lametti.
