The suspect involved in a police standoff earlier this month is now facing one more charge.
On Friday, Thunder Bay’s police announced that the suspect was charged with hostage taking.
Officers were sent to a business on Cumberland Street North on July 4 around 8:30 a.m.
A man had entered a business holding what appeared to be a gun while three people were inside.
Two of the people were asked to leave, while one was kept as a hostage.
Officers established communication with the suspect and arranged for the safe release of the hostage, which occurred shortly after 11:15 a.m.
The standoff lasted late into the evening, before the suspect was taken into custody around 10:20 p.m.
After the incident, the firearm was determined to be a replica.
The accused is also facing the following charges:
- Use firearm in commission of offence
- Careless use of a firearm
- Pointing a firearm (three counts)
- Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
- Forcible confinement
- Armed robbery
- Possession of a Schedule one substance (two counts)
- Possession of a Schedule three substance
The accused remains in custody with a future court date.
