Charges have been laid following a nearly 14-hour-long police standoff on Cumberland Street North.
Officers were sent to the area on Friday around 8:30 a.m. after receiving a report about a weapon.
A man had entered a business holding an apparent firearm, well three other people were present.
Two of the people inside were asked to leave, while one was kept as a hostage.
Officers established communication with the suspect and arranged for the safe release of the hostage, which occurred shortly after 11:15 a.m.
The individual was unharmed.
The standoff lasted late into the evening, before the suspect was taken into custody around 10:20 p.m.
After the incident, the firearm was determined to be a replica.
As a result, a 63-year-old is facing the following charges:
- Use firearm in commission of offence
- Careless use of a firearm
- Pointing a firearm (three counts)
- Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
- Forcible confinement
- Armed robbery
- Possession of a Schedule one substance (two counts)
- Possession of a Schedule three substance
The accused remains in custody with a future court date.
