Giving Tuesday at the Regional Health Sciences Centre exceeded expectations. Heather Vita of the Health Sciences Foundation tells us they were able to surpass their fundraising goal by $30,000 as part of the the campaign to bring a heart surgery unit to the hospital.
The objective was to raise $40,000 towards the purchase of two surgical instrument trays, and they actually received $71,141 in donations. It now means the hospital can buy three instrument trays instead of two.
The trays hold different equipment a surgeon might need for heart surgery like a re-tractor which keeps a chest open during an operation.
The Our Hearts at Home Campaign has a goal of raising $14 million for the overall project and so far at least $12 million has been collected.
