Explosion Averted In Garage Fire

Quick action from Thunder Bay Fire and Rescue has prevented the results of a garage fire from becoming worse.

They tell us they were called to McMillan Street in the south end yesterday afternoon around 3:30.

Fire crews say right beside the burning garage were two large propane tanks.

It did not take long for one of the relief valves on one tank to come off due to the propane inside expanding.

Fire fighters say intense flame started coming from the tank, but they quickly put that fire, and the garage blaze under control.

There were no injuries, and the cause is under investigation.
