The empty COVID-19 unit at the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre will be closing.
When it opened in April hospital officials were preparing for a possible influx of coronavirus patients, and set aside 36 beds in a special section of the hospital.
However, by early May there were fewer patients than expected so the number of beds was reduced to 15.
Now with no active COVID-19 cases in the district, the hospital will be shutting down the unit on Thursday so the beds can be better used elsewhere in the facility.
