Health Unit Declares COVID-19 ‘Outbreak’

An outbreak of COVID-19 has been declared at Hogarth Riverview Manor.

The Thunder Bay District Health Unit says it is in a staff member on the fourth floor.

Health officials stress “At this time, no residents or other staff members have been identified as having symptoms.”

The Health Unit also notes under provincial guidelines only one staff member or resident of a long-term care home has to be found to be positive with the coronavirus in order for an outbreak to be declared. The low threshold is designed to help “swiftly” contain further spread.

It is also the first COVID-19 outbreak at a city long-term care home.

The Health Unit says it is working with St. Joseph’s Care Group in the ongoing investigation and management of the outbreak.
