It is Black Friday, one of the top shopping days in Canada. Only Boxing Day can compare to the sales and interest generated by Black Friday in Canada.
Thunder Bay Chamber of Commerce president Charla Robinson notes our city is no exception. “What I hear from retailers is that is it is kind of the official start of the Christmas shopping season.” She adds “there are certain things that send that signal ‘this is time for shopping’ and this is one of those things.”
The chamber president agrees Black Friday has caught on with many shoppers in the city who are not going into the United States anymore to hunt for deals. She believes city retailers have recognized that and have used it to “hopefully get shoppers…to spend their dollars locally.”
