Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling is releasing a book near-and-dear to her family’s hearts for FREE! The Ickabog, which she stresses is NOT a Harry Potter spin-off, was written around a decade ago with intentions of being published, but was put on the back-burner. Until recently, J.K.’s younger kids were the only ones to have heard the story, and she thought maybe The Ickabog would be just for her family. “Then this lockdown happened. It’s been very hard on children, in particular, so I brought The Ickabog down from the attic, read it for the first time in years, rewrote bits of it and then read it to my children again. They told me to put back in some bits they’d liked when they were little, and here we are!”
The Ickabog will be published for free on theickabog.com a chapter (or more) every weekday until July 10th.

And how is this for AWESOME!? J.K. would like kids, between 7 and 12, to illustrate The Ickabog for her! She’ll be making suggestions every day for what kids might like to draw and they can enter it in an official competition being run by her publishers, for the chance to have their artwork included in a printed version of the book due out in November! All of the author royalties from that release of The Ickabog will go those affected by COVID-19. Check out some of the artwork already starting to pour in through #TheIckabog on social media.
