Five Bucks At The Door For Free!!!

If you haven’t had a chance to check out this documentary yet, I HIGHLY recommend you get on it soon. It’s streaming for free until March 28th courtesy of the Female Eye Film Festival. Five Bucks at the Door: The Story of Crocks N Rolls is a look at the history behind a legendary venue, which was THE place for bands to play in Thunder Bay at the time. There are testimonials from local bands who played, bands who came through on their way to being huge, from Frank Loffredo himself and dozens of locals who were there or have awesome stories about the venue. It was obviously very lovingly put together by Kirsten Kosloski and the love and respect from bands and fans alike really shines through.

I think a lot of people forget just how important Thunder Bay was in terms of Canadian music, many bands that couldn’t get a gig here faded away. Even living in southern Ontario, I remember hearing about and reading stories from bands who played here and were ecstatic about the welcome. Times have changed, bands have rerouted, but this is a really great piece of history and something I can’t wait to share with my kids when they are a little older…I don’t think they’d get it just yet.

  • Originally from southern Ontario, Jason found his way here and fell in love with the community and music scene of Thunder Bay over twenty years ago. In between various stints on radio, television and writing, Jason is a dad, a partner and (some would consider) a zoo keeper (seriously, he has a LOT of pets).
