First Nation Looks To Keep Out Industry

The Grassy Narrows First Nation wants its land to be an industry-free zone.

That’s the intent of a declaration signed by the chief and band council this week.

It basically bans all forest activity in the traditional land-use territory, including logging.

Chief Rudy Turtle states that industrial logging makes their on-going mercury crisis worse.

The signing of the declaration was witnessed by the National Chief of the Assembly of First Nations, Perry Bellegarde.
